If you’re considering trying acupuncture in Madrid for the first time or you’re simply curious about how it works, I’d like to share what a typical acupuncture session looks like when you come to see me at Genki.
I work from an integrative approach, combining traditional Chinese medicine with a modern, personalized view of health. Every person is different, and your treatment should be too.
In your first visit, we’ll spend time talking. It’s not just about what hurts or what symptoms you want to address—I want to understand your sleep patterns, digestion, emotional state, energy levels, and overall lifestyle.
I also use traditional Chinese diagnostic tools, such as tongue observation, to gain a deeper understanding of your energetic state. This helps me tailor each session specifically to your needs.
Once I’ve defined the treatment plan, we move to the treatment table. You’ll lie down comfortably in a calm, quiet setting. I use ultra-fine, sterile, single-use acupuncture needles, which are typically painless to insert. You might feel a light tingling, warmth, or heaviness—these are completely normal sensations.
The needles usually remain in place for 25 to 45 minutes, during which you can fully relax. Many of my patients describe this time as deeply restorative—some even fall asleep.
After a session of acupuncture, many people feel lighter, more relaxed, clearer mentally, and with reduced pain. Some effects are immediate, while others build progressively over multiple sessions.
I’ll be with you throughout the process, adjusting your treatment as needed. My goal is to help you restore balance, ease discomfort, and enhance your overall quality of life.
While acupuncture is the core of the treatment, I often incorporate other techniques to enhance its effects, depending on your case:
Cupping therapy: helps release muscle tension, improve circulation, and remove stagnation.
Auriculotherapy: stimulates specific points on the ear, often used for stress, insomnia, or support with addictions.
Electroacupuncture: involves a mild electrical current passed between acupuncture needles, especially effective for chronic pain or muscle conditions.
Every session is unique just like you. At times, I’ll work only with needles; however, other times I’ll combine several methods depending on what your body needs at that moment.
